Forest Farm, Custom Avatars, and Alchemy!

Now that it is finally time for the annual updating of the blog (I’ll try and do this more often going forward), let’s start with a quick look back at some of the more recent developments.

A few months ago we added Forest Zone, the second world zone and home to Forest Farm, the second major city in Portal Walker! Farm wheat and animals for new cooking ingredients and solve the mysteries of the Amazon Tribe as you level up to the new level cap of 30.

More recently the first round of avatar customization was rolled out, allowing players to select their own hair style and color, skin color, and eye color! For now the customization selection is fairly limited, but new options and styles will be added in the future!

I’m pleased to announce that the fifth crafting skill was released today, the brand new Alchemy skill! Purchase glass vials from the item shop in Grasslands City and mix them with random mob drops at a cauldron to make potions!

With that stuff out of the way, I’ll be moving full steam ahead on creating maps and content for the next world zone! Be sure to follow me on Twitch to follow the progress and chat with the rest of the Portal Walker community! Thanks for playing Portal Walker, I hope to have more updates for you soon!

Download Android PC Beta

After much waiting and suspense, the Android and Windows versions of Portal Walker are available for download! Grab them here! Now that these versions of Portal Walker are available for testing, I’ll be focusing on expanding the game’s content so that there are many more places to explore and adventures to be had! I also am planning on returning to streaming on Twitch soon, so keep an eye out for me there!

New Farming System, Sounds, and PvP Infamy System!

Farm Party!
Farm Party!

Just wanted to check in with a few updates regarding the latest additions to Portal Walker! It’s been awhile since any new Gathering or Crafting skills were added to the world, so I decided to bring Farming and Harvesting into the game! Stake your own plot and live out your dreams as farmer, so long as the sun is up to grow your crops, that is. Earlier in the month I added a bunch of sounds to help make the game a bit more rich and immersive, which was definitely inspired by the fine job @Dartax10 did on his latest video. I hear he’s working on a new one, hopefully that’s coming soon!

The new PvP Infamy System is something I’ve been planning and talking about for a long time, and finally got around to adding it due to the new farms being a potential hotbed for Player vs Player combat. This is basically a set of rules that now govern open world PvP combat so that players that repeatedly kill other unprovoked players will have to make a tough choice between resuming a lawful play style until their infamy lowers, or facing penalties from being outcast as an outlaw or murderer. Becoming an Outlaw is as easy as targeting another innocent player, and will grant you an orange name tag in-game. As an Outlaw, other players can attack you without becoming Outlaws themselves, and you will lose the ability to use shops, inns, and banks in normal towns. Fortunately, it’s very easy to return to the right side of the law. Just spend some time NOT killing people and you’ll come back to the light side. However, there is a permanent path to the dark side…

Whenever you kill other players as an Outlaw, you will gain “Infamy”. The lower level players are compared to you, the more Infamy you will gain from killing them. Once you have gained so much Infamy that you have crossed the point of no going return, you will be labeled a Murderer and your name tag will be permanently stained red. This score is hidden, but an in-game dialog is displayed reminding you if your next kill should make you become a Murderer, so don’t say we didn’t warn you! Infamy will slowly dissipate while you do not have Outlaw status, but once you are a Murderer, there is no going back. These most despicable/hardcore of players will not only lose 100% of their carried gold on death and be forever banished from towns, but they will also drop their equipped weapon and some equipped armor when killed by another player! There are rumors of an underground stronghold where these types of scoundrels can still do business, but you’ll have to see for yourself, if you even dare to go looking for such a terrible place.

Before I go, just wanted to give a shout out to Meridian 59, the Internet’s first graphical MMORPG, and the game that heavily influenced the PvP Infamy System in Portal Walker. If you think the PvP rules are hardcore in Portal Walker, go check out Meridian 59… that game has absolutely INSANE PvP rules! So, until next time… Be careful out there, and be nice to one another, or suffer the consequences!

Another Dartax10 Video!

PWSound

Dartax10 has put out a new Portal Walker video, this time he gives us his take on what the game might be like with sound! CHECK IT OUT HERE! Please toss a like onto his video while you’re there, I can’t believe how much work he put into making this video. He’s going to be putting out more Portal Walker videos as well, so you might as well just subscribe to his channel!

Spring Update has arrived!

Long time, no blog! In this case, it’s a good thing, since I’ve been busy! Since the last post, the initial set of combat skills has been finished up, the Duel Arena and Duels have been added, a new city and new maps are in, and two new dungeons are ready to be explored! In addition to all of that, the world has transitioned from winter to spring, and that means that many old areas are much more colorful and rejuvenated! There are also some new items to craft and new quests to complete, so look around and you may find some new things!

First Rain of Spring
It’s raining! Take cover!

Expect some cool things in the coming weeks, such as new items only obtainable from treasure chests that you’ll soon be able to find and unlock! Tune into the People Powered Games Twitch channel to follow the progress! See you there!
